MEET OUR COACHES

Savanna Berger

Savanna is a Banzai alum who has been playing volleyball for 12 years and coaching for 3 years. She played collegiately at Midland University and is looking forward to bringing all her knowledge to the athletes she coaches. 

SCOTT CARNE

Volleyball is Scott's Hobby!  He loves to play and coach Volleyball.  Scott has played Volleyball for more than 30 years and has coached for over 25 years for high school and club for both men and women.  Scott has taken several of his teams to Nationals, both at the mens and womens level.   Scott is Impact, Safe Sport Certified and ‘CAP I’ certified at USAV.  Scott's coaching Philosophy is “helping the girls learn volleyball skills while having fun learning the game”.

 

CARLY FONFARA

Carly is a Banzai alum in her first year coaching with our club. She has been playing volleyball competitively since 5th grade. She played collegiately at Simpson College and got her Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. Carly has always had a passion for the game and continues to stay involved by playing in sand volleyball leagues.

Carly says, "I am so excited to be a part of Banzai with the coaches that helped shape me into the competitor I am." 

SYDNI GEORGE

Sydni is a Banzai alum and in her first year of coaching with us. She started playing volleyball when she was 11 and started her club career at the age of 12. Sydni started off as an outside hitter, then transitioned into setting her freshman year at Ralston High School. Sydni went on to play as a DS at Iowa Central Community College for two years. While in Iowa, she coached club volleyball as well as high school. We are excited to have her back with our Banzai family!

EMILY GILBERT

This is Emily's second season with Banzai.  Emily played middle and outside at Banzai and Papillion Lavista High School for four years and is now a junior on the volleyball team at College of St Mary's.  She loves getting to know the girls and watching them grow as players and as teammates.

JUSTICE HARMON

Justice started her coaching career in college as a volunteer coach in a small town in Missouri. After graduating college, she came home and coached 12 select and 13 select for Performance Volleyball. She started her high school coaching career at Fremont High School as the JV coach. She then went on to Platteview High School where she teaches. She also coached for Papillion Lavista High School at the freshman and reserve levels for 5 years. 

Last club season, she  coached the 16 select team that finished 12th in their age division at Nationals. She is so excited for this next season and we are happy to have her as part of the Banzai family. 

COLLEEN HERNANDEZ

Colleen has been playing volleyball since high school. She attended Mercy High School and went on to play at Peru State as a middle and right side. She has coached for over 17 years starting our at the YMCA before transitioning to club and high school. She is currently the assistant varsity coach at Mercy High School with Brittany Speckhals. The two have had excellent growth over the last 2 years at Mercy and have coached together for the last 14 years. The pair have a great connection and believe in not only teaching skills on the court, but incorporating life skills as well. 

Colleen has worked at ScoreVision for the last 8 years bringing new game day experiences to High School and College athletes all over the country. She is the proud mom of Lydia who attends UNL covering Husker Volleyball and Basketball in digital and social media. When (and if) she has extra time, she loves spending time with Lydia, her family, and their new puppy Darby!

CAITLYN LAIRD

This is Caitlyn's first year with our Banzai family. She previously played outside at Bellevue University from 2010-2013 and earned her Bachelor's degree in Health and Human Performance.

Caitlyn was the graduate assistant for Bellevue University from 2014-2016 while earning her Master's degree in Leadership and Coaching. She was Bellevue University's assistant volleyball coach in 2019 and 2020 before switching to the admissions department to focus on growing her family. She is still currently working in the admissions department at Bellevue University. 

Caitlyn coached club volleyball at various clubs across town for 8 years. She specializes in hitting, serving, passing, and defense.

ABBE MANCUSO

Abbe Mancuso is a Banzai alum with 15 years of playing experience. She excelled in college, earning a spot on the All-Regional team for 2 years at Central Community College. 

Now in her third season as a coach, Abbe shares her love for the game and expertise with the next generation. Off the court, she's a Stretch Practitioner, enhancing performance and flexibility for clients of all backgrounds. We are happy to have her back this season!

CAITLYN MARCO

Caitlyn is from a small town in Nebraska. She has been around the game of volleyball since she was six years old and hasn't stopped playing since then. Caitlyn went to college at UNO and now teaches elementary PE. Caitlyn also coaches the reserve team at a local middle school. 

She has a great love for coaching and teaching the game to young athletes. Her goal is to inspire young athletes to be the best version of themselves on and off the court. 

KATY MOONE

You can usually find Katy at Banzai watching one of her three girls play, where they feel they are not just a part of a club but a family. Katy has been playing volleyball herself for over 30 years and coached middle school volleyball while living in TX. This is her second year coaching Banzai. She has coached both 12s and 17s, but truly loves helping to strike a passion in the beginning club volleyball players and helping them to build a strong foundation as athletes and teammates. She believes that building confidence and a strong mindset is as important as building skills.

Katy has been working with kids for 20 years as a Speech Language Pathologist in various schools around the country. Her passion for both teaching and volleyball, combined with her patient approach, will ensure your child has a positive experience at Banzai VBC. 

AMANDA OLIVER

This will be Amanda's first year coaching with the Banzai family. She started playing volleyball at a young age with a group of friends for the YMCA when she was six. That passion grew as she started playing club volleyball for Volleystrong. After a couple years, she started playing for Nebraska Impact and played for them until continuing in college at Iowa Central. 

Amanda has a business degree and is currently working as a pre-k teacher. She also has a 3-year-old mini me. 

LYDIA PERMENTER

Lydia was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She played high school volleyball at Ralston for four years. Her senior year (2018), she helped Ralston make it to State for the first time in 15 years. She also played volleyball at Premier and Banzai in Omaha. She played at the college level for two years at Central Community College in Columbus, NE where she earned two associates degrees in science and art. She then transferred to UNO to continue her education. 

Lydia is in her second year coaching at Papillion LaVista High School at the freshman level. Lydia loves coaching to make connections with players and helping improve their overall skills. She is very excited about this upcoming season. 

RYLEE REGGIO

Rylee has been playing volleyball since the age of 6 to include 8 years of club volleyball.  She attended Burke High School where she lettered all four years.  Rylee recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education.  This is Rylee's second year with the Banzai family and we are looking forward to her teaching the love of volleyball to our players.

MAKENNA SELDEN

Makenna has had many years of experience as she played for over 8 years. She played at Millard North High School and Nebraska Impact. She comes with a variety of experience for different positions on the court. She just recently graduated with her Masters of Science. Currently she is working as a middle school speech language pathologist. She loves spending time with her family at the racetrack or playing fetch with her black lab. 

This is Makenna's second year at Banzai VBC and we are so happy to have her a part of the family. 

JADEYN SMIDT

Jadeyn is a Banzai alum in her first year of coaching. She played four years of high school at Gretna HS and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy at College of Saint Mary, where she is also playing volleyball.

Jadeyn is excited to guide young athletes. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. She's dedicated to instilling values of integrity and hard work, both on and off the court.

BRITTANY SPECKHALS

Brittany is a dedicated and experienced volleyball coach with a passion for nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the sport. She has an impressive coaching career spanning 14 years and started coaching at Bryan High School. Currently, Brittany serves as the Head Varsity Coach at Mercy High School, a role she has held for two years. Her tenure at Mercy spans five years, during which she has contributed to the growth and success of the program. 

Brittany graduated from UNO and is a dedicated educational sign language interpreter, a profession that reflects her commitment to communication and accessibility. Her ability to bridge communication gaps extends not only to the volleyball court, but also her broader community. When she is not working or coaching, Brittany loves to be with her family and hiking mountains. 

LUIS VEGA

Luis is a volleyball enthusiast with a rich playing and coaching background. He played four successful years in high school as an outside and libero and went on to play in college, earning a spot on the All-American 2nd team.

As a coach for the past 6 years, Luis' primary goal is to instill the same love for volleyball in his athletes. He's not just a coach, but also a dedicated player in both men's and co-ed volleyball leagues.

Currently, Luis is coaching at Davis Middle School as the head coach and previously coached our 15 select team. Luis lives by the quote, "I don't know how my story will end, but nowhere in my mind will it say that I gave up."

LEXI WOLFE

This is Alexsey's first year with our Banzai family. She is originally from Grand Island and played club and high school volleyball growing up. She is currently a speech-language pathologist at Papillion La Vista Community School District. In her free time, Lexi enjoys shopping and hanging out with friends. 

Sydney Yong

Sydney is a former standout player at Millard West High School and Central Community College. This is Sydney's second year of coaching and is committed to developing the skills, discipline, and passion to young athletes. 

Sydney's journey in volleyball began at a young age watching her sisters play, leading to a successful high school career as a state runner-up and Class A Honorable Mention in 2013. She continued her success in college as a District G Champion and competing at the NJCAA National Championships in 2015 and 2016.
